68 years ago today, Robert Schuman, then foreign minister of France, proposed a plan to make war in Europe unthinkable, now known as the Schuman Declaration. It laid the foundation for what would later become the European Union we know today. Happy Europe Day everyone!

trivial fact: he was held prisoner in Germany right besides a „Sacre ceure coeur de Jesu“ monastery where he allegedly often talked with the monks (who themselves had to return there from Africa after they got evicted). Rumor goes that there are unpublished memos and dialogues in the monasteries archive. As for his „prison“, it’s one of the most sought after houses to live in here, but only very few know the history it all bears, they just live there for the view.
