I was at Alice Springs airport (middle of the desert in central Australia) and I wanted a drink from a vending machine, I put in my coins and made my selection but the drink didn't come out. Annoyed that I had paid $3.30 for nothing and as I had nothing better to do I called the number on the side of the machine. The phone was answered promptly, I told her the situation and quoted the number on the side if the machine and she said "OK, give me a second". (It was one of the machines with the credit card payment options as well). She then said "OK I've loaded money onto the machine you can get whatever you want now". And it was my best vending machine interaction ever, it was like a positive Black Mirror episode.
