This new ones are great, the old gray ones only worked consistently on plates if my memory serves me well.
Still, invaluable tool. They had their own separate box in my lego chests so I wouldn't lose it with the other parts. When a plan demands stacked 1 by x I still feel a faint pain in my fingers just looking at the pictures.

I had these as a kid but I didn't know what they were for. So I just used them as spoilers on cars I would build.
