It's facinatingly horrendous to watch politicians and pundits discover, one by one, that the chains of oppression they helped strengthen when it benefited their careers are now slowly strangling them too.

They've already suceeded, that's what people miss. Chomsky lays out it very plainly in 'Manufacturing Consent'. Corporate influence over the vast majority of media is extreme and is reflected in the political system: working people vote against their interests and will continue to do so for the forseeable future. The dream of workers owning the mills they work in is not even talked about as examples of "extremist left-wing thought", instead single payer healthcare and a living wage is talked about as "Radical".

It's so extreme that war with Russia/NK/China is suggested without the implication of a nuclear holcaust; global warming is "un-settled science" and up for debate; 6 major companies provide almost all the news in America.

The media has contrained the allowed range of discussion for generations and it won't change anytime soon. At least we have the internet now, pray we don't lose that.

This isn't a Trumpian phenomenon.
