Warranties have become a new way to increase revenue. It simply wasn't a thing thirty years ago. You sold a product, it came with a warranty (or didn't), and that was it. The notion that you have to pay extra for a company to stand behind its product is ridiculous. Even retailers are trying to cash in on the warranty game.

Edit: Thanks you, gracious stranger, for the gold! Greatly appreciated.

GE also blocks negative reviews. My comment that the GE fridge burned its $300 control board just after one year was "not in accordance with GE's posting policy". I then posted on every appliance website I could find.

My 2 year old GE oven tried to murder my family by creating carbon monoxide. I had a smoke detector / CO detector that could read the parts per million in the house when it happened. The CO levels went over 100 ppm and only happened when the oven was on. (we stopped using the oven until it was resolved) GE refused to believe me, then told me that those levels of carbon monoxide were safe and I shouldn't worry about it. They said we were safe up to 800 ppm according to their engineers. Side note: 800 ppm of carbon monoxide will KILL YOU in 2-3 hours...
