"Correctional facility" is such a crock of shit... If people really wanted to 'correct' someone with a drug dependence, then we'd devote more resources to mental health and other more effective public programs.
Jesus... if there's one industry that shouldn't be lobbying to increase their customer base, it's corrections. Privatized prisons are a conflict of interest, pure and simple. Freedom or the lack thereof should not be treated like a commodity. Creating more incarcerated citizens should not be anyone's goal, especially not anyone with any kind of power.
CCA also runs many of the illegal immigrant detention centers in America. These for-profit prisons will incarcerate immigrants indefinitely, often using them as free labor. Also the most fucked up part? These prisons have government mandated minimum quotas. There has to be a certain number of beds filled at all times--just imagine how that manifests itself on the policing side.
Often overlooked because no one wants to talk about immigrants.
