I'm a bridge engineer who was working in Florida about 2 years ago. Neither I nor anyone I know was involved with this bridge, but this is my absolute worst fear. I've seen a few pictures of the bridge before and after, and it isn't clear what happened. At this point, it's impossible to know if it was a construction or engineering error. What a fucking tragedy...

Looks grim.

Also, wasn't due to be opened until next year, that means it's unlikely anybody was on it, thankfully. Likely cause is faulty construction, materials or engineering. Really unfortunate for the people in the cars, they were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

EDIT: The bridge was an "instant bridge" installed in a single morning after fabrication elsewhere.
