In May 2017, TMZ reported that Kanye West had gone to Wyoming allegedly to work on a new album. Nearly one year later, it appears that West and others may have returned to the state to continue working. An anonymous source has told E! News, “Kanye has been recording in Jackson Hole for the last week,” adding, “He has several producers, friends and his personal trainer who have all dropped into town to work with him.” In addition, TMZ reports that Travis Scott is with West in Wyoming. Pitchfork has contacted representatives for Kanye West and all other artists in this story.

TMZ cites various photographs that show Travis, among others, in what could be Jackson Hole. Many artists, however, have not tagged their own locations or given further context. Travis, for example, does not indicate that he is in Wyoming, but he appears in the snow, and his manager, David Stromberg, recently shared an image from Wyoming.

The artists who have posted on Instagram from Wyoming are: King Louie and The-Dream, the World Famous Tony Williams, and Young Thug producer Wheezy (although he removed the location tag).

Fan account TeamKanyeDaily reports that Pi’erre Bourne and A$AP Bari, as well as Kid Cudi and Nas are also in Wyoming, but TKD does not provide sourcing. TKD also claims that producer Mike Dean is in Wyoming, based on an Instagram post that shows music software on laptops. Dean, however, commented, “I’m in Hawaii.” In addition, TMZ reports that producer Jeff Bhasker is with the crew, presumably because he has posted several scenic photographs on Instagram; none are tagged.

The Jackson Hole rumors recall Kanye West’s recording process for 2010’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. For the iconic record, West spent a year in a studio compound in Hawaii working on the album. He flew out various collaborators to work on the project. West’s latest album, The Life of Pablo, arrived in 2016.

He should tell Nas to release that album that has been done for a year now...seriously though I’ve been very patient with it Nas. If you are reading this, I will find you...and I will listen to that album.

He was here in Aspen at the beginning of the winter with Dave Chappell. Supposedly had a studio set up in his hotel room

Ahhhh what beautiful nature around there. That’s near Yellowstone. Definitely a good place to be inspired to make music.
