In all fairness however, it’s citation for “the Catholic Church quietly lobbied against the bill” goes to another page that says the same sentence, but without citations.

Perhaps I'm reading this incorrectly, but based on one of the links in the article, the primary concern is that the organizations themselves will be sued for abuse that occurred long ago. It even says that they believe the individuals involved should be prosecuted even if it happened long ago. Their concern is for organizations that depend upon the funds of members, NOT for individuals who committed abuse.

Churches are the main ones who lobby for statute of limitations for sex offenses. Seriously, why should there be a deadline on charging your rapist or molestor?!?!? Oh, because a church spent money to help get that law passed....
