‘Since when did Kanye West make video games?’ was a question a lot of people were asking when he debuted a trailer for a game about his mum riding a Pegasus in heaven during launch of The Life of Pablo last week.

It turns out the answer is: since he was 12.

In a 2009 interview with Details, Kanye discussed how he got into making beats because he needed soundtracks for the video games he was working on.

Being a pubescent teenage boy at the time, they were pretty sex-orientated.

"First beat I did," he recalled, "was in seventh grade, on my computer. I got into doing beats for the video games I used to try to make. My game was very sexual. The main character was, like, a giant penis. It was like Mario Brothers, but the ghosts were, like, vaginas. Mind you, I'm 12 years old, and this is stuff 30-year-olds are programming. You'd have to draw in and program every little step—it literally took me all night to do a step, 'cause the penis, y'know, had little feet and eyes."

He went on to discuss how he believes humans should try and channel their innate sexual desires into creativity.

“People ask me a lot about my drive. I think it comes from, like, having a sexual addiction at a really young age," he said. "Look at the drive that people have to get sex—to dress like this and get a haircut and be in the club in the freezing cold at 3 A.M., the places they go to pick up a girl. If you can focus the energy into something valuable, put that into work ethic . . . "

West released his new album The Life of Pablo over the weekend, following one of the most unorthodox release strategies in history.

What?? Good God, people. Someone gift him a game studio so he could realize his vision and bless us with the most perfect game ever made since Flappy Bird.
