KIRO 7 and Jesse Jones have paid off $1.1 million of medical debt for 1,000 people in western Washington.

After hearing Washington state medical debt stories for an investigative report, we decided to do something about it.

We spent $12,000 and purchased $1 million worth of medical debt owed by viewers in our region.

German court rules Facebook use of personal data illegal

BERLIN (Reuters) - A German consumer rights group said on Monday that a court had found Facebook’s use of personal data to be illegal because the U.S. social media platform did not adequately secure the informed consent of its users.

The verdict, from a Berlin regional court, comes as Big Tech faces increasing scrutiny in Germany over its handling of sensitive personal data that enables it to micro-target online advertising.

Facebook, which counts more than 2 billion users worldwide, already faces scrutiny from Germany’s competition authorities over its handling of its users’ personal data. »

South African lions eat 'poacher', leaving just his head

A suspected big cat poacher has been eaten by lions near the Kruger National Park in South Africa, police say.

The animals left little behind, but some body parts were found over the weekend at a game park near Hoedspruit.

"It seems the victim was poaching in the game park when he was attacked and killed by lions," Limpopo police spokesman Moatshe Ngoepe told AFP. »

Michael Fassbender to Star in 'Kung Fury' Feature Film

The hotly anticipated feature-length follow-up to one of the biggest cult short film of recent years has lined up an Oscar-nominated star.

Michael Fassbender has been cast in David Sandberg's action-comedy Kung Fury, which Sandberg will also star in and produce under his Laser Unicorns banner, alongside Fassbender.

Bloom will handle international sales and introduce the film next week to buyers at the Berlin International Film Festival. »

The Shining instilling terror 35 years later

Going for interesting over realistic, Kubrick directed and produced The Shining, released thirty-five years ago this week on May 23, 1980.

Carlos also composed the score for Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange (1971) under the name Walter Carlos.
