NBC’s tape-delayed Olympic opening ceremony broadcast, as usual, didn’t manage to air the entire event.

While the Peacock Network continues to improve upon previous years’ heavy hand in editing, they still sliced off 23 minutes in the 14 hours that passed before it finally hit NBC’s airwaves.

Here’s a breakdown of what was excised; a sped-up video of every second that NBC missed is up above.

(We’ll note that if NBC had simply skipped its half-hour promotional content it aired before starting the opening ceremony proper, it could have aired the whole thing in its entirety.).

This was a very cool journey through Korea and Winter Olympic history that U.S. audiences would have, I think, enjoyed?

The introduction of the U.S. delegation, which in real life took 62 seconds but which appeared on American television to take more than seven minutes.

(They looped parts, which is why you heard the same portion of Psy’s “Gangnam Style” over and over again. »

Composer Jóhann Jóhannsson, Academy Award-nominated and Golden Globe-winning Icelandic composer, musician and producer, died in Berlin yesterday.

Known for compositions that often blended electronics with classical orchestrations, Jóhannsson credits include the Golden Globe-winning score for 2015’s The Theory of Everything and last year’s mother!.

Also that year, Jóhannsson composed the score for Arrival, another collaboration with Villeneuve, for which Jóhannsson received Golden Globe, BAFTA and Grammy nominations. »

Openly gay teacher fired after posting wedding pictures on social media

MIAMI, FL (WCMH) — Some parents are speaking out after a popular first grade teacher was fired after she posted pictures of her same-sex wedding on social media.

The parents called her a “great teacher” and said they were aware that she is openly gay and that it made no difference.

Several parents said after meeting with the school administration, they still don’t have a satisfactory explanation for why Morffi was fired. »

The findings suggest that use of overhead far-UVC light in hospitals, doctors’ offices, schools, airports, airplanes, and other public spaces could provide a powerful check on seasonal influenza epidemics, as well as influenza pandemics.

Several years ago, Brenner and his colleagues hypothesized that a narrow spectrum of ultraviolet light called far-UVC could kill microbes without damaging healthy tissue.

The far-UVC light efficiently inactivated the flu viruses, with about the same efficiency as conventional germicidal UV light. »
