I once had one of these that looked like the one in the very center. It's supposed to have another set of "stones" grow up from the middle with their split perpendicular to the split of the first two, and then as it gets bigger and spreads out another set grows up from the middle of that set and so on until it flowers. Thing is, mine didn't grow right. It started to grow the second set, but then the first set just kept growing bigger and bigger until one day it was too too heavy and effectively snapped its own neck. It committed suicide. I'm terrible with plants......
