The truth is there probably is usually enough to fill a 24 hour/day news cycle. The problem is the actual news gets pushed aside for opinion reporting. That's basically the only bad thing both share.
My wife's aunt spends 16 hours a day every day (not exaggerating) watching CNN, she's absolutely obsessed with network news and addicted to television in general, her life revolves around it, but if I let my daughter play Animal Crossing she scolds her and tells her video games will make her dumb.
