Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge is located north of Istanbul in Turkey. The bridge is also called the third Bosphorus bridge. The bridge is one of three that cross the Bosphorus Strait which divides Asia and Europe. Construction of the bridge started in 2013 and in 2016 opened the bridge. The bridge is 2164 meters long and the main span is 1,408 meters. The bridge has towers that are 322 meters tall, making it the world's second tallest bridge structure.
The bridge was built by a South Korean joint venture of the Hyundai and SK Group companies with the total cost of the project put at $800-900 million.
Despite the attempted coup last year, Erdogan hopes the bridge will be just one of many of his self-proclaimed "crazy projects" to open in Istanbul in the next years.
