Late Night in Miyajima

Alrighty, here's the deets. This was taken on December 3, 2017. The temperatures there swing between 15 to 0 degrees C in December, so it's definitely a nice time to stay here. Fewer tourists than in summer, lots of dusk/dawn light, so also great for photography.

We stayed at Hostel Kaniwa one night, and it was a fine little hostel to stay at. Only one other guest was sharing our dorm, a nice British fellow.

In terms of food... well, Miyajima is a bit of a tourist trap so most of it is pretty disappointing. We had a decent dinner at Mametanuki though, where we got drunk with a Tokyoite hiphop band called 3WAYS - they paid for our dinner bill because they were so happy to hang out with fun foreigners! (I love this country...)

Photography is the highlight of Miyajima though. The torii, the deer, the forest landscapes, the waterside shrine... that's what makes the island a must-visit.

It's easily reached by train from Hiroshima (take a commuter train to Miyajimaguchi, then hop on the ferry and you're there), alternatively you can take a ferry straight from Hiroshima.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Food

In terms of food... well, Miyajima is a bit of a tourist trap so most of it is pretty disappointing. We had a decent dinner at Mametanuki though, where we got really drunk with a Tokyoite hiphop band called 3WAYS - we started talking over how the Belgian soccer team beat the Japanese team a week prior, we bought them drinks, they bought us drinks, in the end they even paid for our dinner bill because they were so happy to hang out with fun foreigners! (man, I love this country...)

Transportation

It's easily reached by train from Hiroshima (take a commuter train to Miyajimaguchi, then hop on the ferry and you're there), alternatively you can take a ferry straight from Hiroshima.

Travel itinerary

Here was our total trip itinerary. https://i.imgur.com/IZTclgq.png I set this trip up to combine a mix of the must-see spots, such as Kyoto, Tokyo and Miyajima, with rural places I had not been to much before (Hakone, Kiso Valley). This because it was the first trip to Japan for my fiancée, and my fourth. A little bit for both of us.
