image for Late Night in Miyajima

This was taken on December 3, 2017.

The temperatures there swing between 15 to 0 degrees C in December, so it's definitely a nice time to stay here.

Fewer tourists than in summer, lots of dusk/dawn light, so also great for photography.

We stayed at Hostel Kaniwa one night, and it was a fine little hostel to stay at.

Only one other guest was sharing our dorm, a nice British fellow.

In terms of food... well, Miyajima is a bit of a tourist trap so most of it is pretty disappointing.

The torii, the deer, the forest landscapes, the waterside shrine... that's what makes the island a must-visit. »
