Wind, solar and nuclear power have each generated more electricity than coal and gas combined – for the first time ever in the UK.

Wind supplied an estimated 9.5 gigawatts, nuclear provided 8.2 gigawatts and solar contributed 7.3 gigawatts, all ahead of gas on 7.2 gigawatts.

Renewables alone – wind, solar, biomass and hydro – also set another record for generation, reaching about 18.7 gigawatts at the same time. »

A federal prosecutor dropped a bombshell in court Wednesday, telling a federal judge that the government estimates that as many as 100 girls may have had their genitals cut at the hands of a local doctor and her cohorts.

It involves allegations that two Minnesota girls had their genitals cut at a Livonia clinic in February as part of a religious rite of passage and were told to keep what happened a secret.

The government believes the three defendants, all members of a local Indian-Muslim sect, subjected numerous girls to genital cutting procedures over a 12-year period. »

Chinese authorities say they have uncovered a massive underground operation run by Apple employees selling computer and phone users’ personal data.

The statement did not specify whether the data belonged to Chinese or foreign Apple customers.

The suspects, who worked in direct marketing and outsourcing for Apple in China, allegedly charged between 10 yuan (US$1.50) and 180 yuan (US$26.50) for pieces of the illegally extracted data. »
