Scientists hope they have found a drug to stop all neurodegenerative brain diseases, including dementia.

She wants to start human clinical trials on dementia patients soon and expects to know whether the drugs work within two to three years.

The novel approach is focused on the natural defence mechanisms built into brain cells.

Many neurodegenerative diseases involve the production of faulty proteins that activate the same defences, but with more severe consequences.

It halted the progress of prion disease in mice - the first time any neurodegenerative disease had been halted in any animal.

Prof Mallucci said: "It's time for clinical trials to see if there's similar effects in people and put our money where our mouth is.

"If these studies were replicated in human clinical trials, both trazodone and DBM could represent a major step forward.". »

Rover Pipeline Spills More Than 2 Million Gallons of 'Drilling Fluid' in Ohio Wetlands, One Month After Construction Began

The Rover pipeline spilled an estimated 2 million gallons of drilling fluid pollutants into wetlands "adjacent to" the Tuscarawas River in Navarre, Ohio, last week, according to a notice of violation filed by the Ohio EPA.

All costs will be borne by Rover, and the Ohio EPA has noted that these notices are not the final action in this process.

Google Plans Ad-Blocking Feature in Popular Chrome Browser

Alphabet Inc.’s Google is planning to introduce an ad-blocking feature in the mobile and desktop versions of its popular Chrome web browser, according to people familiar with the company’s plans.

In one possible application Google is considering, it may choose to block all advertising that appears on sites with offending ads, instead of the individual offending ads themselves.

Google already pays to be part of an “Acceptable Ads” program offered by software company Eyeo GmbH, for example, which develops popular ad-blocking tool Adblock Plus. »
